Is there a way to retrieve sound from a samsung video camera without the AV cable?

I have a samsung scl770 which uses 8mm tapes. I can connect the camera via USB and get video, but the sound won't transfer without the AV cable. Is there a way to get sound without the cable?|||option 1. While the camcorder is plugged in, and recognized, go into Windows control panel, select sounds and audio devices. Click on the audio tab. In the "sound recording" section click on the default device drop down menu. Select your camcorder from the drop down menu ( it might say samsung audio device or camcorder or something else funny.)

Option 2. Make sure that your video capture program knows that you are trying to record the audio from the camcorder, and not the video card. In windows movie maker, the video capture wizard will give the option to select your "audio device" from a drop down menu. Make sure that your camcorder has been selected.

Important information: according the SCL-770 manual, your camcorder requires an audio cable to be connected between it and the computer for audio transfer. Sorry, buddy.

Your camcorder was obviously designed in the earlier days of USB, where the convenience of USB wasn't yet fully understood. The USB video output feature was probably added to provide users with an inexpensive way to capture their videos onto their machines without expensive video capture cards. Not adding a USB analog to digital converter was probably also a cost saving measure, to keep the camcorder affordable. Once again, sorry buddy, you'll have to plug in two cables, instead of one, until you go for an all digital solution.
